Buying a Cabin
(Source:
Right on the Money, Buying a Vacation Home
Vacation dream home)

Vacation homes, cabins and cottages often sell so fast that you'll have
little time to dwell on your decision before making an offer. What are some
things you can do to be prepared in advance?
-
Ask about and be aware of
zoning laws and covenants that will affect your use of the property. You
may not be able to expand that rustic little cabin into a year-round
residence.
-
If you're buying in a
desirable, secluded location, find out about the land around you. Who owns
it? Could it be developed in the coming years?
-
Think of how much time you'll
actually spend at the property, and decide if it's worth the expense of
ownership. Perhaps renting would make more sense.
-
Your state's department of
natural resources may be a valuable, unbiased source of information about
the lake you're looking at.
